PROBLEM

Art is open to individual evaluation. Yet institutions monopolize, often unwittingly, the right of curation and criticism. This phenomenon contributes to an elitist image, while at the same time shutting out the gaze of others.

METHOD

  1. The aim of the "Visites Forcées" project is to give a voice to people working inside cultural venues, while remaining external to the art world. The project consists of video portraits of firefighters, plumbers, fire detection officers, electricians, security guards and surface technicians working in museums, opera houses and other cultural venues.

  2. The people we've met over the course of the project have often spent more time with art than you could ever imagine in your wildest dreams. Yet we never asked them for their opinion on what they saw or felt.
